Revisiting an Old Map

I ran a campaign a couple of years back.  I was on a very limited budget in terms of time, and was much less versed in map making than I am now.  I needed a map for the game, and didn’t have anything but MS Paint to make it in.  Sadly, that is what I did.  I wasn’t completely happy with it at the time, but at the same time I wasn’t overly disappointed in it.  The game went great and is remembered very fondly, and I’d like to think that the map played a role in that, but looking at it now makes me cringe a bit.  I decided to take a few minutes yesterday to spruce the map up a bit.  I didn’t redo the map, more renovated it a bit.   It limited what I could do, but also preserved the overall look of the original.

Have you ever wanted to have a great digital version of your campaign map but lacked the skill and know-how to translate your vision into reality?  Well we at the Labyrinth are here to help one lucky person make their dream come true!  That's right we are going to give away a free custom made map to one of our lucky readers.  Our rules are slightly different than last year's contest, so please read carefully.

Entry:
Entry to this contest is simple.  There are only thee requirements: 

1. You comment on this post stating that you want to enter the contest and describing the subject of the map that you want (world, kingdom, dungeon, town, or etc) in 100 words or less.  
2. You must be a follower of this blog when you Enter via Comment
3. We must have a way to contact you (Since you are a follower this is pretty simple, just don't disable every means of contacting you!)

It really is that simple!  Entry will be open for one week at which time we will select the best entry and furnish one lucky person with a great custom map.

So now you are probably asking yourself, "What if I win?  How is this going to work?"  Well if you are our winner we will contact you through your Google profile.  You then have five days to respond and accept your prize.  That's when the fun begins!  Communication will take place back and forth so that we get an idea of  what the map should look like, what colors to use, name locations, etc.  We will furnish the winner with working versions leading up to the final version to make sure we are on the right track and the winner is happy with the progress. 
The map will be the property of the winner with the artist(s) retaining the right to display them in their portfolio only.  Finally, we will show the finished version (with watermark) on this site so everyone can see how it came out.

Free Map - Dungeon Edition!

This is the dungeon map I was supposed to post yesterday, but since I didn't it looks like there will be two free maps this week.  This dungeon is a cavernous maze.  It has an entrance and an exit (easily seen by the break in the map border).  If people enjoy it then this map will be the first in a series of modular dungeon maps.  I went with a square grid because they seem to be much more popular.  If there is a desire for a hex version email me or leave a comment and I'll add one.

For those who have been following along, this map builds upon the random dungeon generation I used for the Lair of the Formorian King map.  Obviously this one was a bit more involved, but beginning concept and technique were much the same.

Free Map... Wednesday?

These are getting harder and harder to do.  Not for lack desire or inspiration, just lack of time.  School is really getting to be a pain, I've been putting in extra hours at work, and my weekends are pretty much booked solid.  So finding time to sit down and make maps is getting harder and harder.  Thank you all for bearing with me as this map is a few days late.  

Some general housekeeping before we get to the map... We've had a request for a subterranean map which I am working on, but you might not see that for a few weeks.  I've also gotten a few requests for more town maps which I will do my best to fulfill.  Finally some people have been wondering when we will do another free map giveaway and I can tell you that it won't be until this semester is over because I just don't have the time right now.  December or January is likely when you will see the next contest.  I won't give away all the details now, but I will say that this contest won't be a random drawing like the last time, but will still allow anyone interested to enter.

New Free Map - Now with bonus Hex Version!

I'm scheduling this well ahead of time in case the hurricane that is currently tear assing through North Carolina does likewise where I lives and I end up losing power, something my power company tells me may happen for up to a week!  

This map is of a river and the surrounding lands.  Though normally we do totally blank maps there has been some requests to do maps that have more features, but still have the labels left off.  To that end this map has rivers, hills, forests, etc, but still no labels.  That part is your job!
