A Game of Thrones Combat Recreated

If you are a fan of the hit television show Game of Thrones then you will like this. 

An online series called Fight Class goes through and recreates the fight scene explaining it as they go.  For their second episode they decided to do one of the best scenes from the first season of A Game of Thrones, Tyrion's trial by combat.

D&D Debate

Ah how far we have come.  This video is a debate on the news from 1985 about how responsible D&D is for things like murders and suicides involving players of the game.  I always find these old videos interesting.  People have a tendency to fear what they don't understand, but fearing D&D is just so bizarre.  I think we can all be grateful that this kind of bullcrap is over.

The Best Worst Movie: Troll 2

When I was a young lad I saw a terrible movie called Troll 2.  I didn't really understand a lot of what was going on, but I figured that was because I was a kid.  It wasn't until years later when I saw it again that I realized the reason I didn't understand what was going on was because the movie was fricken insanely bad.  It is so bad that there is a documentary about how bad the movie is.

First Look At Bane From New Batman Movie

Here is a first look at Thomas Hardy depicting Bane in the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.  Also the Official site for the movie is up, but it just has some ominous chanting. 

New D&D Song: Roll A D6

There are a number of songs that deal with RPGs and Dungeons and Dragons specifically, but I think I can say with confidence that this one is pretty unique.  This video has some pretty impressive production values and special effects.  It certainly wins the award for the most use of auto-tune on vocals.   To be fair to those who made the video, the reason for all the auto-tune is because it is a parody of the song Like A G6 by Far East Movement.

I think we can all agree that Roll A D6 is a huge improvement. 

Sansa and the Iron Throne

Mobility and Plate Armor

There are a lot of misconceptions about Plate Armor that exist among the modern population, Gamers included.  Many believe that a Knight when knocked over was rendered all but helpless, unable to stand back up because his movement was so restricted by by his armor.  That just isn't true.  Was their movement and vision impaired because of their armor and helm?  Of course.  But if it restricted it to that degree a Knight would have had a different set of Plate commissioned.  Remember Armor smiths made the armor to fit the man.  It was precision work. Many pieces on the armor were articulated so that the Knight could stay mobile even when fully armored.  A Knight needed to move and be mobile on the battlefield, and that mobility could mean the difference between life and death. 

Here is a video demonstrating what I'm talking about.  Mike Loades is a noted military historian and in this video he demonstrates how quickly a Knight can be knocked from his horse, stand back up, and be ready to fight all while wearing Plate Armor.

Armor of Britain

I came across this on Youtube today.  It is a great look at Armor and its advancement in the middle ages.  It deal primarily with Mail and Plate Armor and goes as far as demonstrating how each stands up to the various types of weapons available to warriors of the time.

Friday Video: Bram Stoker's Dracula In Under Two Minutes

Bram Stoker's Dracula is a very important and influential book.

It also stinks.

That's my opinion, anyway.  I read it, along with a number of other important pieces of Vampire fiction in preparation for running I6: Ravenloft.  Honestly, that was a waste of time.  I might as well have watched the below video.  That would also have been worthless for gathering inspiration, but at least it would have been funny and short.

Friday Video: The Call of Cthulhu In Under Two Minutes

I love the game Call of Cthulhu and am having a blast playing our current campaign, but when I read the story The Call of Cthulhu by HP Lovecraft I was kind of shellshocked.  I wasn't very good.  In fact, I really thought it was bad. 

Hey don't throw things as me!

I've read other Lovecraft stories and enjoyed them (Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, etc) but I just didn't like Call of Cthulhu.  I may have been a matter of expectations  (it was the first Lovecraft story I ever read and I expected to love it) or it could be that it just isn't my cup of tea.  Whatever the reason I really wish someone has pointed me to the video below, The Call of Cthulhu in Under 2 Minutes.  It does an amazing job of telling the whole tale in, you guessed it, under two minutes and manages to be really funny at the same time.

Parts 1 and 2 of the Dead Alewives Watchtower are perhaps the funniest D&D parodies ever made. For a couple of reason the first part, by far the shorter of the two, is much better known.  In my opinion the second one is actually better. 

Regardless, they are both classics that every gamer should enjoy.
